Earn CET Points from Home

As an eye care professional, your patients' eye health and vision is your number one priority. It's crucial that you are able to keep up with your Continuing Education and Training (CET) whenever possible, so that you can offer the best possible eye care to each patient who walks through your practice door.

How does the CET platform work?

We are committed to improving lives by improving sight, working with independent eye care professionals to help correct and protect the vision needs of your patients. By signing up to the CET platform, you can join this mission in making sure you're offering the best in vision care.

You can sign up for free to access a wealth of CET modules, covering a variety of competencies including ocular examination, ocular disease and standards of practice. With hours of educational CET content, the e-Academy can help you maintain your skills and knowledge to practise safely. You can also choose between interactive and non-interactive modules, with the chance to take part in optional discussions.

You will receive 1 CET point per module, with CET points credited in 5 working days. Your points are uploaded to your GOC account where a record is kept.

Why do you need to complete CET?

CET is a statutory requirement for all fully-qualified optometrists and dispensing opticians. With that in mind, the General Optical Council has made it a mandatory scheme, and fully-qualified registrants must earn a minimum number of CET points, and meet a minimum set of requirements, to stay on the registers.

This allows the GOC to properly regulate optical professionals and provide a scheme to help you continue learning in order to develop your professional knowledge further. In turn, this will help you to maintain trust with your patients, and practise effectively throughout your career.

What are the CET requirements?

There are different requirements depending on your specialism. For optometrists and dispensing opticians, you should aim to obtain 36 points during the scheme, which runs for 3 years. A minimum of 18 of these points must come from interactive CET, and you are expected to obtain at least 6 points per year.

For therapeutic prescribers, you should obtain 54 points. A minimum of 36 should come from optometrist CET points, and a minimum of 18 should come from therapeutic prescribing CET points. There should also be a minimum of 18 points from interactive CET.
